Meet Mr. Michael Brooks — a dedicated social worker, motivational speaker, and the guiding force behind History in the Making, his passionate initiative focused on empowering youth.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Michael brings to his work a profound sense of service, discipline, and mentorship—values honed during his military service that now form the foundation of his approach with young people
At East Pasco Education Academy in Dade City, where he serves as a school social worker, Michael plays a vital role in supporting students who’ve faced challenges on traditional campuses. Here, he doesn’t just address academic or behavioral struggles—he offers a powerful combination of guidance, understanding, and inspiration. One student affectionately calls him a “father figure.” Another shared:
“He’s like that in school, father figure. He's very sweet. He's very kind.”
“He's always motivated me to be positive… it really changed my point of view.”
Michael’s philosophy is simple yet profound: the care he received from mentors in the Army inspired him to give back, offering the same support to students who might feel they lack it in their lives. As one principal noted, Michael goes the extra mile, sometimes staying late or proactively engaging families, to ensure that every student receives the encouragement and resources they need.
Even after students move on, Michael’s investment in their well-being continues. He stays connected, an act that instills hope and demonstrates, in his words, that "people still care" and that their journey is not forgotten FOX 13 Tampa Bay.
